Wind Generators

Postby Dave on Sun Feb 04, 2007 6:59 pm

We have an AirX wind generator set up at the workshop.

The power generated is used to charge a wet lead acid battery pack (2 x 6volt 200amp/hr). These batteries provide power to run an inverter in turn running three servers, a number of routers, switches, wireless bridges etc.

I have set up a datalog to record the current wind speed and max wind gusts in our area. The resulting graphs can be found here http://www.prostart.com.au/weather.php

The intention is to set up a datalogger to record and graph the power that is fed into the batteries by the AirX wind generator. Checking with a multimeter and a current clamp we have found up to about 32 amps were generated by the AirX during VERY strong wind gusts. Knowing that the current increases with wind speed I hope to log the current on the same graph as the wind speed.

I am guessing we could then get an average of the output of the wind generator in amps/hour, amphours per week, month, year etc.
