Barina Problem. Not sure if it is electrical

Hello,

Our car (91 Barina) started having starting problems, suspected battery took it to the battery dude who said your battery is ok as is your alternator - must be your starter motor as it was giving off signs of starter motor failure. We replaced the starter motor with the only positive result being the motor turned over very slowly (not quick enough to start) and not tick tick ticking like a stuck solonoid. Ignoring the battery dude we bought a new battery, whcih has made absolutely no difference at all. Is it possible the ring gear is the problem or do you think there is possibly a short somewhere bearing in mind the car jump starts and runs fine?
